Lauren Daigle, an award-winning christian music artist, performed her hit song “Look Up Child” on American Idol Monday night.
Daigle, who auditioned for American Idol some ten years ago, appeared on a special episode of the singing competition show called “American Idol: The Comeback”.
According to CBN News, the special featured the ten finalists from last season and was aimed at giving them the chance to perform live on a big stage since they were unable to in 2020 because of COVID-19 lockdowns.
Daigle, who auditioned for American Idol when she was 17, was rejected by the judges. Today, however, she is a two-times Grammy winner and holds the record for longest-lasting No. 1 single on any Billboard chart.
Daigle was nominated for a Grammy in 2015 for her album How Can It Be and again in 2016 for her single “Trust in You.” However, it wasn’t until 2018 when she won her first Grammys for her album Look Up Child and her song “You Say.” These musical works won Best Contemporary christian Music Album and Best Contemporary christian Music Performance/Song, respectively.
Daigle’s song “You Say” has also been viewed on YouTube over 206 million times, and it has more than 310 million streams on Spotify. Additionally, Daigle’s song “Still Rolling Stones” was the ninth most popular song of 2020. Billboard also called her the top christian Artist of 2020.
Daigle’s career has not been without its hiccups, however. In 2018, some criticized the young singer when she said that she could not “honestly answer” whether homosexuality was a sin. She elaborated, “I don’t know. I actually had a conversation with someone last night about it. I can’t say one way or the other. I’m not God. So, when people ask questions like that, that’s what my go-to is. Like, I just say, ‘Read the Bible and find out for yourself. And when you find out, let me know because I’m learning too.'”
