Kayleigh McEnany Shares Account of Her Mastectomy and Trump’s Support as a Mom

Written by on August 27, 2020

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany spoke at Republican National Convention on Aug. 26, openly sharing about her mastectomy and President Trump’s support as a working mom.

“When I was 21 years old, I got a call that changed my life. It was my doctor informing me that I had tested positive for the BRCA2 genetic mutation, a mutation that put my chances of breast cancer at 84 percent.”

McEnany explained she needed a preventative double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery because she carries the BRCA 2 genetic mutation that placed her at high risk for breast cancer in 2018.

“I was scared. The night before, I fought back tears as I prepared to lose a piece of myself forever. But the next day, with my mom, dad, husband, and Jesus Christ by my side, I underwent a mastectomy, almost eliminating my chance of breast cancer, a decision I now celebrate.”

She also talked about Trump’s supporting her as a mom. “The same way President Trump has supported me, he supports you. I see it every day.”

McEnany worked as the president’s reelection campaign’s spokeswoman and became White House press secretary in April.
